Jubilee Sailing Trust
Sailing with the JST is a world away from an ordinary holiday. It is challenging, very sociable, a learning experience and pushes the boundaries for everyone involved, but above all it is amazing fun!
Lord Nelson and Tenacious remain the only two square-rigged tall ships in the world that have been specifically designed and built to enable people with a whole range of different physical abilities to sail side-by-side as equals. The ships are fully accessible and everyone is expected to take part in all aspects of sailing the ship – there are definitely no passengers!
Who can apply
Anyone with or without a disability can apply. You must be over 16, but there is no upper age limit.
Phab Voyage 2009
Recently Phab enabled 11 Phab
Members aged 17 – 60 with and
without disabilities to be part of a
working crew on board a tall ship
named “Tenacious”.
We set sail from Southampton
and headed out into the English
Channel. The weather was brilliant
apart from the lack of wind. We
headed back towards Cowes
where we docked and set off to
explore the town.
We were all active members of
the crew and were put into
watches and each watch had to
undertake different tasks. These
tasks included hoisting sails,
plotting the course and the most
popular was “Happy Hour”.
This involved the cleaning of the
whole ship, from scrubbing the
decks to cleaning the toilets.
It was a fantastic journey for
all of us and nothing we had
experienced before.
