Louis Goldberg Award – Winner Nick Feingold – Merchant Taylors’ School. Nick’s story

The Phab week held at Merchant Taylors’ School and run jointly with St Helen’s School in North London provides a fun packed week of activities for guests of all abilities, hosted by volunteers from the sixth forms of both schools. Nick Feingold from Merchant Taylors’ is a great ambassador for Phab and as leader of the project over the last two years he will have left a lasting legacy when he leaves the school at the end of this term.

Nick’s work began long before the Phab week – being lead organiser of two “Phab Revue” gigs that raised nearly £8000 towards the project. He has given many talks to parents groups and at Speech Days reflecting the Phab aims of “Making more of life together”.

He is an incredibly attentive and considerate host, and has especially befriended Dexter, one of the young guests, who recently returned for a fourth year, keeping in contact with him and arranging outings outside the Phab week, meeting his social worker and giving a speech about Phab at the social club that Dexter attends.

He has also strengthened the administration of the Phab week, devising a selection process for new student volunteers - 100 applicants for 10 places this is due to the way that Nick and the boys on the team are seen as exemplars of the Phab ethos and philosophy.

Other Louis Goldberg nominees were:

Helen Gilhooley from Halton Phab
William Brodie, Chippenham Phab
Hannah Baillie Five Towns Phab in Stoke on Trent.
