Run for Phabkids

2011 Virgin London Marathon Sunday 17th April

Another glorious marathon day – the weather was perfect for spectators albeit a little too warm for many of our runners. Phab had 231 Golden Bond runners and 18 own place runners taking part this year.

Our Phabkids vests were easy to see as our runners ran the 26.2 mile marathon course. This year we were pleased to have a team of professional cheerleaders at mile 11 to encourage our runners on their way. We have received positive feedback from many runners who have said how much they appreciated, and needed, the support around the course and it is hoped that for the Virgin London Marathon 2012 (London’s Olympic Year) more Clubs will give their support on the day to the people who raise sponsorship for Phab!

If your Club would like to support our Phab marathon runners on race day next year please get in touch with Madeleine Fry by email madeleine@phabkids.co.uk Sunday 22nd April is the date - it is a great day out!

We are very grateful to the Royal Parks who again gave us the privilege of using
The Storeyard, St James’s Park as our post-race venue for meeting our runners and their families. John Leach, Chairman of Phab, Martin Holdsworth, Chief Officer of Phab and our team of volunteers welcomed the Phab runners as they arrived at The Storeyard. Angela and Mick Formby, whose help every year on race day is invaluable and very much appreciated, took photos of most runners who made use of the facilities. For the fourth consecutive year we offered post-race massage to our runners and the team of therapists worked extremely hard to ease many aching muscles. We have had some amazing comments and letters of thanks from many of our runners who like to refer to the venue as ‘a little oasis of peace’.

Thank you to all our runners who devoted so much time, energy and effort in running the marathon and raising sponsorship. They achieved so much for Phab and their personal achievement in completing the Virgin London Marathon is something they will always remember.
