Mersea Island Festival
The Mersea Island Festival is two action-packed, fun-filled camping breaks taking place in August on the coast of Essex.
The Festival has been an annual event since 1981. There’s a 5-day camp and 3-day camp with people coming to either camp or sometimes both. The camps are open to everyone, with or without a disability, and are ideal for Inclusive clubs, Phab and Gateway clubs, Youth Groups and families with disabled young people.
The Festival offers a wide variety of activities that are fun and exciting but also challenge and stimulate, helping to build self-confidence and esteem in participants. Activities may include water-skiing, archery, judo, zip wire, climbing, dancing, music workshops, circus skills, swimming, speedboat, fishing, art activities, discos and live bands. You can take part in as much or as little as you want, making new friends and trying new things.
Accommodation is mostly under canvas, with limited bed space in cabins for those who require it. Meals are served in the dining hall and snacks and drinks are also available. A bar is open during the entertainment each evening.
The whole site is on one level and the halls, bar, toilet and shower blocks are wheelchair accessible. First Aid cover is provided and qualified instructors run all the adventurous activities. A team of volunteers are on hand to make sure that everyone can have a fun and great time, though if anyone needs any personal assistance we do ask that they come along with a friend, buddy or support worker as the team are unable to provide one to one personal care. These friends and buddies get to join all the fun to!!
